Kathy Marx, the owner of 21 Cakes, has brought together her passion for baking and art to do what she loves most, creating beautiful delicious desserts. Her grandfather Albert Marx, was a trained baker who emigrated from Germany in the 1930's to open a bakery in Brooklyn, New York. Visits to her grandparents always included a visit to the store, Ace's Bakery. Upon finishing high school, Kathy's direction was either art school, or culinary school. She chose to follow her passion of cooking and attended Johnson and Wales University, earning a degree in Culinary Arts and Food Service Management.
After having a career and then taking several years off to raise a family, Kathy returned to her passion working at exclusive hotels first in Culinary, and then switching to Purchasing. With her love of art still lingering, she accepted the challenge of making a hamburger cake for a colleague's birthday and she hasn't stopped since then! Her ability to create and delight has lead her to the final journey of owning a bakery.
